Subject: Onslow 142 Toe Protection
Stephen,
As discussed at our field review on the Onslow Bridge No. 142 on Wednesday, NCDOT
would like to install rip rap toe protection from Sta. 14+40 to 15+10 LT. The rip rap
would be placed within the existing permitted toe of fill and extend up the shoulder
approximately 5 ft. This area is adjacent to an inundated wetland area which frequently
floods during rain events and overtops our erosion control measures. The Division is
concerned that we will not be able to get vegetation established which will result in
sloughing shoulders and maintenance issues. Attached is a revised permit drawing
showing the proposed placement of the toe protection.
Please let us know if DCM approves of this minor revision.
