Re: Radford Quarries of Boone, Inc.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Watauga County, as an adjoining property owner, is in receipt
of the notice of application for a surface mining permit by Radford
Quarries of Boone, Inc. We are aware that there have been problems
with this operation, including flooding violations, sedimentation
of the New River and stockpiling of junk. We are also aware that
these and other problems have resulted in litigation involving the
quarry, the Town of Boone and the State of North Carolina. In
light of that, as well as the various citizen comments and
complaints regarding the quarry received by the County government,
we feel that a public hearing on the permit application would be
appropriate, and advisable.
