Re: Application for Mining Permit Bamboo Road QuaA*
Dear Mr, Davis:
At the request of Mr. Randal S. Marsh, Attorney for Radford Quarries of
Boone, Inc., I have reviewed paragraph 4 on page 2 of your letter of
July 23, 1993 to determine whether it is appropriate to install a
excavated channel at the inside toe of the dike to the sediment basin.
I am familiar with this particular Ote and have revi . ewed the maps that
have been presented to your office in the review process.
It appears to me that the installation of an excavated channel would
increase the likehood of a systematic breakdown of the perimeter dike
designed to capture the surface water into the basin. Further, the
channel would cause additional sediment to gather from the channel
boundary opposite the dike, causinQ the basin to fill quicker than is
necessary. Therefore, it is not deemed advisable to require the
excavated channel on this site,
Finally, I have Prepared the calculation you requested for the perimeter
dike and surface water discharge into the sediment basin. The 18" dike
will be more than adequate -to manage the flow calculations which have
been provided to you.
Please feel free to contact my office should you have any questions
regarding these matters,
Sincerely,
Al Childers
District Conservationist
