(c) Freshwater shall be assigned to one of the folloN?V7JUg classification:
(1) ClassC: freshwaters protected for secondary recreation, fishing, aquatic life including propagation and
survival, and wildlife. All freshwaters shall be classified to protect these uses at a iniiiiiinim.
(3) Nutrient Sensitive Waters (NSW): waters subject to growths of microscopic or macroscopic ve�getation
requiring limitations on nutrient inputs.
(49) Nutrient sensitilre waters mean those waters which are so designatedmi the classification schedrde in order
to limit the discharge of nutrients (usually nitrogen and phosphonis). They are desigaiated by "NSW"
follov6iig the water classification.

15ANCACO2B.0211 FRESH SI-RFACE WATER QUALITY STANDARDS FOR CLASS C WATERS
General. The water quality standards for all fresh stuface waters shall be the basic standards applicable to Class C waters.
Water quality standards for temperature and irtimefical water quality standards for the protection of human health applicable
to all fiesh surface waters are 'in Rule .0208 of this Section. Additional and more sti-111-2ent standards applicable to other
specific fieshwater classifications are specified iii Rules .0212,.0214,.0215,.0216,.0218,.0219,.0223,.0224 and.0225 o f
this Section. Action Levels for purposes of National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) pennitthig are
specified in Item (22) of this Rule.
(1) Best Usage of Waters: aquatic life propagation a -ad maintenance ofbiological integrity (including fishing
and fish), wildlife, secondary recreation, ayxiculture, and any other usage except for primary recreation of
as a source of water supply for drinking, culinary. or food processing ptuposes-,
(2) Conditions Related to Best Usage: the waters shall be suitable for aquatic life propagation and
maintenance of biological integrity, wildlife, secondary recreation. and agiiculture. Sources of water
pollution that preclude any of these uses on either a short-term or long-term basis shall be considered to be
violating a water quality standard.
