After yesterday's site visit, it has been determined that all cleanup efforts are sufficient.
There does not appear to be an adverse impact to water quality due to faulty
dewatering operations. Preventative measures have been put in place to avoid
instances such as this one in the future. Additional training may prove to be beneficial.
The NPDES records were reviewed. Please ensure that all inspection dates are entered
on the sheets.
Again, thank you for your efforts with the cleanup.
Thanks,
April

Subject: U-2524D Turbid Discharge

This email is to serve as notification of turbid discharge on NCDOT Project U-2524D, The
Greensboro Loop between Battleground Ave and Lawndale Dr.
During my monthly EC ride through it was noted that turbid water was overflowing
basin ID 7.2 at approximate Sta 462+/- into the existing stream channel. The drawdown
of the retention pond at approximate Sta 457+50 Rt was opened with the intent of
draining the pond the perform permanent storm pipe work at this location. However,
flow from the retention pond draw down overflowed the adjacent small skimmerbasin,
flowed down the open ditch into basin 7.2, and overflowed basin 7.2.
When I arrived at this site the draw down had already been closed by Chris Utt. The
contractor stopped work in this area and Kevin Haas immediately installed 3 wattles
with PAM in the ditch line, and added PAM to the slope drain inlet. Upon the
recommendation of Nikki, they also added three wattles in the existing channel
downstream of basin 7.2 to prevent any potential sediment from migrating further
down stream. There was no appreciable sediment accumulation noted at this time.
My EC report will be forthcoming. Attached are photos showing the site. If you have
any questions please feel free to call.
Much Thanks
