Dear Mr. Sears:
On February 12, 2009, the Express Review Program of the Division of Water Quality (DWQ) received
your application for the above referenced project. The DWQ has determined that your application will
require additional information. Please provide the following information so that we may continue to
review your project and prevent denial of your application as required by 15A NCAC 2H.0506:
Additional Information Requested
1. Diffuse Flow Provisions:
a. Level spreader designs - All of your level spreader designs claim 100% dense ground cover,
however, the photos you provided show a large amount of wooded vegetation and very sparse
grass areas. Please redesign using more representative proportions of vegetative types.
b. Erosion gullies must not form within protected riparian buffers.
i. BMP 1 - Your current plan for the outlet barrel velocity dissipater for Wet Pond# I
has a peak velocity during the 10-year storm of 22.65 fps which is likely to cause an
erosive gully to form. Please provide a riprap or grass lined channel to convey the
flow all the way to the stream. The channel shall be designed in accordance with the
NC Erosion and Sediment Control Planning and Design Manual using permissible
shear stress method, and shall be at an angle to the stream.
ii. BMPs 2, 3, and 4 - Provide a scour hole design at the outlets to further reduce the
velocities through the buffer.
c. Please submit revised plan sheets showing redesigns for above items.
Please respond within five (5) days of the date of this letter by sending two (2) copies of the above
information in writing. The Express Review Program is a process that requires all parties to participate in
a timely manner.
