This is the second occasion in the last year where a timber harvester in Forsyth County has neglected to use forestry BMPs. DOT ends up making repairs that others neglect. Not sure what can be done about it but wanted to let you know. Thanks. At the Lowery Mill Creek site (permit site 12), someone has logged some of the timber in the floodplain and dropped a couple trees and a bunch of branches in Lowery Mill Creek. We met on site on Tuesday and discussed with the contractor. Our contractor is going to go ahead and clean up, due to risk of flooding causing channel destabilization. This will happen prior to our permit meeting on the 30t". They won't have equipment on site that can do the clean up until Friday or early next week. The plan is to remove the debris from the channel by hand as much as possible and lift any large pieces with equipment. No equipment will be in the water, and any disturbed banks will be stabilized. I've attached a few pictures showing the debris in the channel and the floodplain. If the weather cooperates, we'll plan to hold the environmental meeting in the field and you can check out the repaired site. If you have questions, let me know.
