Andrew Williams Regulatory Project Manager U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wilmington District, Raleigh Field Office 3331 Heritage Trade Drive, Suite 105 Wake Forest, North Carolina 27587 919-554-4884 ext. 26 From: Melanie McKinney [mailto:MMcKinney(a)smeinc.com] Sent: Wednesday, February 04, 2009 12:49 PM To: Williams, Andrew E SAW Subject: RE: Dam Repair Project Andy, I will try to answer your questions in order: 1) We did contact the NCDENR Division of Water Resources concerning flow release and indicated to them that there is no storage within the pond, it releases all inputs. They wanted to make sure we had submitted a copy of the permit to the DWQ, in which case the DWQ may consult with them if they have questions with flow release. 2) Please use Jim Bennett as the contact name for East of Eden Farms instead of Ed Wilson on the permit application. 3) 1 spoke to Bill Williams concerning what he intends for the temp. rock dam and rip rap dissipator pad to be. It's a little unclear on the drawing with the 44 I.f. shown on the drawing which I just rounded to 45 for ease. He has indicated that only 20 I.f. of rip rap will be removed after construction of the dam. The remainder of rip rap will be left as permanent for the dissippator, so approximately 25 I.f. of permanent rip rap. I've attached two revised drawings that should help clarify the temporary area vs. permanent. 4) The question about surface elevation being 783.5 and the top of the riser being 785.5. 1 spoke to Bill about his design - he said that on Page 2 of the details it shows the top of the riser at 783.5 which is equal to the surface water elevation. He assured me that if there are details in the design that show anything above 783.5 it would only be the trash rack that goes over the riser.
