PROJECT SUMMARY: The applicant is proposing to perform maintenance excavation adjacent to the existing Dudley's Marina. The excavation would consist of 12,102yd3 Field Investigation Report: Dudley's Marina Page 02 9. NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION: The Dudley's Marina project is located on the southwestern side of Cedar Point on Bogue Sound in Carteret County. The project is found by traveling on Hwy. 25 and is located at the base of the bridge connecting Swansboro and Cedar Point. Dudley's Marina will be located on the south side, at 106 Cedar Point Blvd. (Hwy 24). The subject project would take place adjacent to a single 3.1 acre parcel that has an elevation of 3'. The project parcel is cleared and maintained. Vegetation consists of native grasses. Presently, the parcel consists of an existing commercial marina with associated boat ramp and dry storage facility with associated launching apparatus. Currently the marina utilizes an existing asphalt drive and gravel parking areas. The Shoreline contains no coastal or Section 404 Wetlands, as the entirety of its 1050' shoreline is stabilized by bulkheads. The width of Bogue Sound at this point is approximately 900'. The AIWW passes directly offshore of the site. The subaqueous substrates along the shoreline are predominately sand and silt. The Division of Water Resources classifies this area of Bogue Sound as SA-HQW waters. This is not a Primary Nursery Area. This portion of Bogue Sound is closed to harvesting shellfish. There are no SAV's in the areas to be disturbed. The parcel is classified in the Carteret County LUP as Developed. This area has been historically dredged as authorized under CAMA Major Permit 21-10 which expired 11/15/14. 10. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The applicant is proposing to excavate 12,102yd3 of material from a historically dredged area behind Dudley's Marina. The dredging foot print would be 172,500ft2(575'X300'). Water depths in this area range from -3' to -7' at Mean Low Water. Final project depths would be -6' MLW. The excavation would be bucket to barge and the spoils would be trucked to an offsite location to be approved by DCM. 11. ANTICIPATED IMPACTS: The proposed maintenance excavation would impact 126,500ft2 of shallow bottom. Any turbidity resulting from excavation would be quickly dissipated as this area experiences high velocity tidal currents. No Coastal or Federal wetlands would be disturbed during the proposed project.
