WETLANDS:
Palustrine Forested (PFO) Wetlands: comprised of 30% or more woody
vegetation that is greater than 20 feet (6m) tall with an understory of small trees
and shrubs, as well as an herbaceous layer.
Palustrine Scrub -Shrub (PSS) Wetlands: comprised of 30% or more of woody
vegetation that is cumulatively less than 20 feet (6m) tall. including shrubs. young
trees, and stunted trees or shrubs.
Palustrine Emergent (PENT) Wetlands: comprised of 30°'o or more herbaceous
vegetation typically dominated by perennial plants and vegetation that is present
for the majority of the growing season.
FEATURE NAMING PROTOCOL:
NON—FLOWING OR OPEN WATERBODIES:
Permanently flooded: Water covers the land surface throughout the year in all
years -
Semi -permanently flooded: Surface water persists throughout the growing
season in most years. When surface water is absent. the water table is usually
at or very near the land surface.
Seasonally flooded: Surface water is present for extended periods especially
early in the growing season. but is absent by the end of the season in most
years. When surface water is absent, the water table is often near the land
surface.
Temporarily flooded: Surface water is present for brief periods during the
growing season, but the water table usually lies well below the soil surface for
most of the season.
Each feature documented vithin the survey corridor Abe assigned a unique identifier (unique
ID). The first letter in the unique ID indicates the type of feature documented, including:
• W for vvetlands:
• Us" for streams or flo5:-..,,Ing .,/aterbodies;
• uo" for open water or non-flov,,ing v,/aterbodies:
• Uno" for non -water points:
•
It p" for seeps or springs:
• ..x.. for noxious ,veed infestations. and
• "h" for species habitat.
This initial identifier is follo:,,;,ed by a two letter abbreviation that represents the county .'ithin
which the feature %-%-,as identified. A list of county abbreviations is provided in Table 6.3-1 belo,,,v.
Next is a letter that distinguishes each field crelA. Each field crew /ill be assigned a letter at the
start of the field survey program. Finally a three digit number is added to further distinguish
each feature. Numbering },vill folio:-,;, the survey direction in sequence of encounter rather than
relative position along the pipeline route.
f" for PFO v. etlands
s" for PSS ;,etlands
e" for PEM :%,,etlands

ACCESS ROAD CLASSIFICATION:
EXISTING ROAD
MAJOR UPGRADE
EXISTING ROAD NO MODIFICATIONS --EXISTING ROAD NOT REQUIRING MODIFICATIONS
EXISTING ROAD MINOR UPGRADE --EXISTING ROADS THAT CONTAIN EITHER A COMPACTED EARTH OR GRAVEL SURFACE.
MINOR REGRADING AND/OR PLACEMENT OF SUPPLEMENTAL GRAVEL WITHIN THE EXISTING ROAD FOOTPRINT MAY OCCUR.
EXISTING ROAD MAJOR UPGRADE --GRADING AND ADDITION OF GRAVEL WITHIN AN EXPANDED FOOTPRINT TO OCCUR
ALONG THE MAJORITY OF THE ROAD. THE ROAD FOOTPRINT POST—CONSTRUCTION MAY EXCEED THAT EXISTING
PRE—CONSTRUCTION.
PROPOSED NEW ACCESS ROAD --CLEAR VEGETATION, GRADE, AND ADD GRAVEL ALONG FUEL LENGTH OF A NEW ROAD.
Perennial Stream: has flowing water year round during a typical year. The water
table is located above the stream bed for most of the year. Groundwater is the
Primary source of water for stream flow. Runoff from rainfall is a supplemental
source of water for stream flow.
Intermittent Stream: has flowing water during certain times of the year, when
groundwater provides water for stream flow. During dry periods. intermittent
streams may not have flowing water. Runoff from rainfall is a supplemental
source of water for stream flow.
Ephemeral Stream: has flowing water only during. and for a short duration after.
precipitation events in a typical year. Ephemeral stream beds are located above
the water table year round. Groundwater is not a source of water for the stream.
Runoff from rainfall is the primary source of water for stream flow.
