SUMMARY OF HISTORIC ARCHITECTURE AND LANDSCAPES REVIEW
DESCRIPTION OFREVIEWACTIVITIES. RESULTS, AND CONCLUSIONS: HPOWeb reviewed on 13 5eptember
2016 and yielded no NR, SL, LD, DE, or SS properties in the Area of Potential Effects (APE). Bertie
County current GIS mapping, aerial photography, and tax information indicated a wooded APE with one
residential resource dating to 2006 on a large parcel to the SW of the existing bridge and a twentieth-
century tobacco barn on a large parcel to the NW of the bridge, both standing well beyond likely project
impact (viewed 13 September 2016). The previously surveyed House (BR0559) and nearby cemetery are
located to the east of and outside the APE. Bridge Number 34, constructed in 1972, is not eligible for the
National Register as it is not representative of any distinctive engineering or aesthetic types. Google
Maps Street View" confirmed the absence of significant buildings and landscapes in the APE (viewed 13
September 2016).
No architectural survey is required for the project as currently defined.
WHY THE A VAILABLE INFORMATION PROVIDES A RELIABLE BASIS FOR REASONABLY PREDICTING THAT
THERE ARE NO UNIDENTIFIED SIGNIFICANT HISTORIC ARCHITECTURAL OR LANDSCAPE RESOIIRCES IN
THEPROJECTAREA: APE extends 500 feet from either end of the existing bridge (E-W) and 100 feet to
either side of the SR 1361 (JefF White Road) center line (S-N) to encompass proposed construction
activities and possible project impacts. The comprehensive county architectural survey (2008-2010) and
other studies record no properties in the APE. County GIS and other visuals illustrate the absence of
significant architectural and landscape resources in the APE. No National Register-listed properties are
located within the APE.
Should the design of the project change, including the addition of improvements along the
off-site detour, please notify NCDOT Historic Architecture
as additional review may be necessary.
