Annette,
Hey I understand from your voicemail that you'll be out until the beginning of the new year. I figured I'd drop you
a quick line to update you on were things stand on the Rivers Edge (DWQ Project No.01-0944 Ver. 3,
Cumberland County) project.
If you'll recall, Rebecca Peterson had done the lion share of the project work on things recently. Unfortunately
Rebecca is no longer with S&EC having opted to return to cooler climes in the great state of Pennsylvania
(based on current temperatures and snowfall she may be regretting that move!). Accordingly I've taken over (or
taken back over) the project work from here on out. Fortunately based on the long history of this one I'm very
familiar with things on site.
At this point we're just about wrapped up with the technical work. Our soils folks (and Rebecca) did the
necessary on-site infiltration testing in addition to forming an opinion to depth to apparent groundwater. I
reviewed the draft of their report last week and should have the final report right after the holiday. Once that's
complete we'll incorporate the results into our SW design report. Based on the results I reviewed it does appear
that we will need to include under-drains in both bioretention areas. We also have concluded that our SW
wetland should function as designed (and hold the necessary open water) based on the determined depth to
apparent groundwater.
I don't recall if you were aware of it or not but Ian McMillan and I had spoken following our (you, me and
Rebecca) last discussion regarding the stormwater design and plans. He asked us to take a closer look at the
configuration of the crossing (small bridge vs. culvert) which we are still (unfortunately) trying to sort through with
the owner and site engineer. At this point I'm very optimistic that we'll be able to finalize the crossing details and
revise the permit soon after the holidays. One of concerns I have however is that at this point (based on my
discussion with Jennifer Frye) is that since the Corps has already issued the Nationwide 14 and if we change
the crossing to a pipe we'll need to resubmit the application but if we have to we have to, right?
Anyway, I'll try and catch back up with you following the holidays. I hope you enjoy and relax a little along the
way!
Regards,
Patrick
