SUMMARY OF HISTORIC ARCHITECTURE AND LANDSCAPES REVIEW
� There are no National Register-listed or Study Listed properties within the project's area of
potential effects.

Description of r'eview activities, results, and conclusions:
Review of HPO quad maps, HPO GIS information, historic designations roster, and indexes was
undertaken on March 20, 2013. Based on this review, there are no existing NR, SL, LD, or DE properties
in the Area of Potential Effects, which is 100'from the centerline each way and 300' from each end of the
bridge. Bridge No. 8 is identified as a survey site, and a historic architecture survey was required.
A site visit of the project area was conducted, and the file for the survey site was evaluated. According to
the file, the survey site is Bridge No. 39, a through truss bridge surveyed in 1978. The file indicates that
the bridge was removed from the County Bridge Maps and state system in 1980 due to the construction of
a new road. The survey site that listed on the HPO website appears to be mislabeled. Bridge No. 8 is a
Tee Beam bridge build 1939, and is listed as not eligible for National Register listing in the NCDOT
Historic Bridge Inventory. Bridge No. 9 is also a Tee Beam, and listed as not eligible for National
Register listing in the NCDOT Historic Bridge Inventory. An abandoned house over fifty years of age is
located northeast of the bridges on ivy� River Road, however it is in a deteriorated condition and not
e�ible for NR listing. Southeast of the bridges are several mid-twentieth century structures that include a

general store, auto repair shop, one-story (under fifty years of age) church, and one-story brick ranch
house. The structures are unremarkable and not NR eligible. There are no National Register listed or
eligible properties within the APE for this project. If design plans change, additional review will be
required.
