Year 1 Monitoring Report Comments
Dear. Mr. Matthews:
We have reviewed the Year 1 Monitoring Report for the above-referenced site. Our review of the report
has generated the following comments:
• The stream stability data appear to indicate that the stream has held up well during this first year,
despite the isolated repairs that were needed. Given the storm events the stream experienced
shortly after construction, the early performance of the stream is encouraging.
• The report states that six of the 14 vegetation plots were below the success criterion of 260 stems
per acre (note: since the site has been approved as a Neuse Riparian Buffer Mitigation Bank, the
DWQ success criterion for the buffer is 320 stems per acre). DWQ is pleased to see that the
Sponsor intends to do supplemental planting prior to the start of the growing season.
Despite the mitigative activities needed at this site, DWQ feels that the site has performed adequately
during it's first year, and DWQ supports the release of mitigation credits per the credit release schedule
outlined in the MBI.
