Jennifer,
I have reviewed the USACE request to acquire written approval for several GC's associated with the above permit
number. Essentially the request is to continue navigation and nourishment projects throughout the North Carolina coast as
have been done in the past.
NCWRC does not object to permit issuance, but would like to state that many of these projects do have moratoria to
protect numerous wildlife and aquatic species. These moratoria are based on species presence as well as project specific
details. Therefore, we will continue to provide guidance on these projects as they occur, requesting moratoria as
necessary, and coordinating with appropriate state and federal agencies. In many instances, if moratoria were not included
and best management practices incorporated, significant adverse impacts to several species could result.
