(SR 1131) over Hop Creek in Catawba County, NC. The existing bridge consists of 1 @ 30'-4" span with timber deck on I-beams on timber caps and piles. It is to be replaced with a 2 @ 12' - 0" x 8' - 6" RCBC at the same location. Proposed ditches in the southwest quadrants will utilize 2:1 or flatter front slopes and 2:1 back slopes to replicate existing conditions. Class ‘B’ Rip Rap is added through the length of both proposed ditches to lower the velocity and minimize erosion. To protect these new ditches from “head cutting”, Class ‘II’ Rip Rap will be placed at the ties to Hop Creek.Grass shoulders and flattened roadway embankments are utilized throughout the project to the extent practicable to provide passive stormwater treatment for roadway runoff. Since no wetlands were located within the project corridor, the proposed project does not impact any wetlands. The alignment of the proposed RCBC was set parallel to the existing stream centerline and minimizes upstream and downstream impacts. The proposed RCBC will be constructed utilizing impervious dikes and a “pump and pipe” operation. Dewatering of the construction area will be into Special Stilling Basins at location specified by NCDOT Representatives. All disturbed areas will be seeded with the appropriate seed mixtures. Proposed upstream and downstream channel improvements will be stabilized with a combination of Class ‘II’ Rip Rap and Coir Fiber Matting. While permanent site vegetation is being established, erosion control matting will be utilized to minimize erosion. Also, erosion control matting will be utilized on 2:1 slopes.N/ABuffer Rules in Effect:9602 -10' asphalt paved lanes with 2' paved shoulders. 4' grass shoulders. Roadside ditches are replaced in both the southwest and northeast quadrents. Both ditches are proposed as tying into hop creek within the US and DS culvert channel improvements, which retains the existing drainage pattern.
