I Replace existing Bridge 161 on SR 1913 (Elijah Loftin Road) over Strawberry Branch. The sufficiency of the
ebsting bridge is 21.36.
4g. Describe the overall project in detail, including the type of equipment to be used:
The proposed project will replace the e�asting bridge on Elijah Loftin Road (SR 1913) over Strawberry Branch in
Lenoir County. The project will replace the existing prestressed concrete channels with an ALBC at the same
location. The project work will consist of grading, widening, drainage improvements, existing structure removal,
culvert installation, culvert channel improvements, and pavement markings. This work will be conducted using
standard road construction equipment.

The proposed bridge replacement will occur as much as practicable within the footprint of the ebsting structure.
Proposed impacts to the stream channel will allow for restoration of the reached of Strawberry Branch that are
currently degraded. The proposed culvert channel improvement will include a wider culvert than the stream width,
will include floodplain benches, and will use rip-rap to stabilize the banks. Riparian buffer impacts have also been
minimized as much as practicable.
1b. Specifically describe measures taken to avoid or minimize the proposed impacts through construction techniques:*
All in-stream work will be done in the dry or using a temporary coffer dam. All necessary sediment and erosion
control BMPs will be installed and maintained through construction. Disturbed ground will be restored and
stabilized with permanent vegetative cover. NCDOT Best Management Practices will be implemented throughout
construction.
