Specifically describe measures taken to avoid or minimize the proposed impacts in designing the project:* The proposed bridge replacement will occur as much as practicable within the footprint of the ebsting structure. Proposed impacts to the stream channel will allow for restoration of the reached of Strawberry Branch that are currently degraded. The proposed culvert channel improvement will include a wider culvert than the stream width, will include floodplain benches, and will use rip-rap to stabilize the banks. Riparian buffer impacts have also been minimized as much as practicable. 1b. Specifically describe measures taken to avoid or minimize the proposed impacts through construction techniques:* All in-stream work will be done in the dry or using a temporary coffer dam. All necessary sediment and erosion control BMPs will be installed and maintained through construction. Disturbed ground will be restored and stabilized with permanent vegetative cover. NCDOT Best Management Practices will be implemented throughout construction. 2. Compensatory Mitigation for Impacts to Waters of the U.S. or Waters of the State 2a. Does the project require Compensatory Mitigation for impacts to Waters of the U.S. or Waters of the State? C' Yes C•' No 2b. If this project DOES NOT require Compensatory Mitigation, explain why: I Proposed ]stream channel impacts are less than 150 feet and will improve channel function. F.
