AOW's identified during recent evaluation
Asheville Steam Plant — NC0000396
Belews Steam Station — NCO024406
Cape Fear — NC0003433
Duke Energy has recently identified additional areas of wetness (AOW's) at the subject facilities.
In each case, the AOW's have insufficient flow to be sampled and no observed connection to
surface waters. This notification is being provided as a courtesy and to assure a complete record
of identified AOW's to be considered in final permit decisions by your agency.
Specific details for the three sites with newly identified AOW's are provided below.
Asheville Steam Plant, NC0000396 — Two AOW's have been identified and given identifiers
"DD -1" and "DD -2". Each is a minor area of wetness with insufficient flow to sample and no
observed connection to surface waters. Locations are as follows:
DD -1 N 350 28' 3.72" and W -82° 32' 37.41"
DD -2 N 35° 28' 2.98" and W - 82° 32' 37.41"
Cape Fear (NC0003433)- One additional AOW has been identified and is being called AOW
"S-23". This area is a minor area of wetness with insufficient flow to sample and no connection
to surface waters. Coordinates for "S-23" are N 35° 30' 20.6" and W -79° 02' 31.3".
Belews Creek Steam Station (NC0024406)- One additional AOW has been identified and is
being called "S-17". This area is a minor area of wetness with insufficient flow to sample and no
observed connection to surface waters. Coordinates for "S-17" are N 36° 18' 2.57" and W - 80°
04' 34.52".
Should further discussions/submittals be required to address any permitting issues associated
with the new AOWs and their respective NPDES permits please let us know. If there are any
