Riverbend Steam Station (NC0004961) — Gaston County Pemkihig8ecti®n
Dear Mr. Pitner,
in accordance with the requirements of Part III of NPDES wastewater permit NC0004961, Duke Energy is
hereby providing no0ceofclosure for Outfall CM, oncethroughcoofingwateratRi ierbend Station in Gaston
County, NC. Riverbend is a retired facility and expecting full closure by 2019.
Duke plans to permanently close the Discharge Tunnel at the Riverbend Steam Station, Outfall 001.
Stop logs will be installed at the end of the tunnel and once installed and sealed, dewatering of the
tunnel will occur. Once the tunnel is dewatered, flowable fill mix will be used to permanently fill in the
tunnel.
At the completion of the filling process, stop logs will be left in place and the Discharge Tunnel Outlet
Structure will be left in place. Demolition of structures above grade will occur at a later date.
