This memorandum will discuss the analysis and results for the stormwater underground
system and discharge velocities as requested by your letter dated September 11, 2017.
Pump Station Outlet:
Kimley-Horn analyzed the site for stormwater utilizing Bentley Pondpack V8i software. The
results of this analysis can be found as Attachment 1. Due to existing wetlands that could not
be impacted, the site was constrained and gravity drainage was not an option. An
underground detention system requiring the use of a pump to evacuate the detained
stormwater needed to be utilized. The underground detention system was designed to detain
the 25 -year storm event and to discharge at a non-erosive velocity (less the 2 ft/s). Kimley-
Horn identified a pump design with a discharge rate of 33 CFS which was used to design the
underground detention system to evacuate the storage within 5 days. Pondpack was utilized
to verify the maximum headwater depth in the underground detention system so as not to
exceed the top of pipe elevation. Inputs for the analysis used an available capacity within the
stormwater detention pipe system of 160,800 CF of storage with a maximum allowable water
surface elevation of 128.5. Results of the analysis show the maximum headwater in the
underground detention for the 25 -year storm event is 127.0.
The stormwater pump outfall will discharge into a linear pond which has an outfall located at
the north end of the stormwater pump station. The combined flow of the drainage area to the
linear pond basin and the flow attributed from the pump is 49 CFS. The 49 CFS discharge of
this linear pond was analyzed utilizing Bentley Flowmaster software. The results of the
analysis show a rip -rap pad located at the discharge point will be required due to the flow
exiting the linear pond exceeds the maximum velocity without rip -rap protection. The rip -rap
pad will widen from 10' wide (at the linear pond discharge point) to 45' wide before entering
the wetland. This will reduce the discharge velocity to less than 2 ft/s per the NCDEQ
requirement.

Level Spreader Outfall:
The level spreader was analyzed utilizing Bentley PondPack V8i software and Bentley
Flowmaster software. The results of this analysis can be found as Attachment 2. Pondpack
was used to analyze discharge flows from the 25 -year storm event. These flows were entered
into Flowmaster using the slope of the proposed parking field prior to entering the level
spreader. The results of the analysis show the sheet flow condition in the parking field to have
a velocity of 1.22 ft/s thus meeting the NCDEQ velocity requirement. Before the north parking
field ties back into the wetland, a 3:1 "lip" or toe slope is provided to further mitigate erosion
and capture sediment before the final outfall into the wetland area. Please refer to attachment
3 for level spreader detail.
