Dear Mr.McMillan and Ms. Chapman:
This letter is in response to your phone call on December 11,2008 which requested additional information
for the proposed Franklin County Pond. The following restates your questions/comments and is then
followed by our response.
Additional Information Requested
1. Please provide a map and quantification of the Riparian Buffer Planting Areas
around the proposed pond. Additionally,please provide quantification of the
riparian buffer impact associated with trail access to the pond.
Please see the attached map. We have denoted both Zone 1 and Zone 2 of the Tar-Pamlico riparian buffer
that will be in place surrounding the proposed pond upon its completion. We have also enumerated the
areas of Zone 1 which will require replanting(i.e.conversion of pasture land to forested area). The
remaining Zone 1 riparian areas around the pond,as evidenced by the aerial photo,are currently forested
and will remain forested at the project's completion.
We have also located,per your request,two, 8-foot wide"greenway trails"for the applicant to access the
pond(i.e.boat launch area,etc.). These points were located in areas that are not densely forested in an
attempt to minimize riparian buffer impacts. We have also quantified the associated"allowable"riparian
buffer impacts,which will not exceed 400 square feet of total riparian buffer impact.
