Purpose: to discuss revised approach to sites proposed for UMBI (for DOT's Neuse 02 rfp release)
Prior site visits, June 27-28, 2017 proposed a number of sites which we basically rejected. Main reason, was they were
proposing actions that did not fully restore sites. Proposed only planting outer sections of buffer along ditches, or
placing structures in current ditches.
Came back in July with email showing revised approach for site 10. We (Todd) and myself still had concerns with
approach and with amount of the watershed they would need to fully restore the system.
Daren then sent an email August 22nd to propose what info they needed to have in the next prospectus.
Brings us to this meeting, again showed revised approach to site 10, however, we still have concerns over the amount
of the watershed they would be protecting to get the headwater stream mitigation.
For site 10A they will have to expand watershed protection, they will flood more area than they realize.
Reach 4 not an option to just plant for E2 purposes. I mentioned could do P2 approach to connect, but both Todd and
Travis were not wild about that suggestion. May be thrown out...
Briefly looked at other two areas proposed:
Site 10-B, discussed the E2 connection next to a house, would prefer that they keep it although probably more of a low
ratio preservation (10:1), also discussed putting water back into old "channel", which I think would be good, however,
we would like to see on next site visit.
Site 10-C, looked like they should expand watershed coverage and include other drainages that may or may not need
any restoration/enhancement
Proposed next site visit as November 20, 21 (tentative)
