Page 10 of 10 D.1.a&b AVOIDANCE & MINIMIZATION/IMPACT JUSTIFICATION Kinston Steel a structural steel fabricator that will have annual production of approximately 20,000 tons once this addition is completed. Materials received from the steel mills waiting fabrication coupled with stock inventory and finished product awaiting delivery to the construction jobsites will exceed 6,000 tons, the equivalent of three hundred truckloads. This coupled with the actual trucks and trailers used in the delivery of materials is what is driving the need for the additional ground storage space. Kinston Steel currently utilizes about 280,000 (60%) of the 463,000 square feet site. The addition will add approximately 65,000 square feet of building, 75% of which will be located within areas currently being used for material storage. Production capacity will more than double, adding 12,000 tons of annual capacity which could result in an additional 3800 tons of steel stored on site. These added loads will consume approximately 167,000 square feet of additional space on the site. After the current proposed building expansion, Kinston Steel will actually have less storage space than what they have currently have available to use. The proposed BMP wet pond will treat 0.8 acre of new impervious and 3.3 acres existing impervious. The site has 3.1 acres new impervious and 5.9 acres existing impervious. Kinston Steel will be treating 4.1 acres of total impervious surface area stormwater runoff after the expansion but only 3.1 acres of new impervious is being added. Therefore 1 acre of previously untreated impervious surface runoff will be treated after the expansion.
