NOTICE OF A DESIGN PUBLIC HEARING FOR THE PROPOSED
WIDENING OF SR 1175 (KERR AVENUE) FROM RANDALL PARKWAY TO SR 2649
(MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR PARKWAY) AND INTERCHANGE AT MARTIN LUTHER
KING, JR PARKWAY IN WILMINGTON
TIP Project No U-3338 B&C New Hanover County
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will hold a Pre-
Hearing Open House and a Design Public Hearing on Monday, January 12, 2009 in the
Wilmington City Council Chambers - Thalian Hall located at 102 North 3rd Street,
Wilmington, 28402
NCDOT representatives will be available at the Pre-Hearing Open House, in the
Cafeteria, between the hours of 4 30 p m and 6 30 p m to answer questions and
receive comments relative to the proposed project The opportunity to submit written
comments or questions will also be provided Interested citizens may attend at any time
during the above mentioned hours
A formal presentation will begin at 7 00 p m in the City Council Chambers The
presentation will consist of an explanation of the proposed location, design, the state -
federal relationship, and right of way and relocation requirements and procedures The
hearing will be open to those present for statements, questions and comments The
presentation and comments will be recorded and a transcript will be prepared
NCDOT proposes to widen SR 1175 (Kerr Avenue) to a four-lane roadway with a
23-foot raised median, five-foot sidewalks and dedicated four-foot bicycle lanes on both
sides The project will widen Kerr Avenue from Randall Parkway to SR 2649 (Martin
Luther King, Jr Parkway) In addition, the project will include the construction of a half-
clover interchange with Martin Luther King, Jr Parkway The project is 1 7 miles in
length Additional right of way and the relocation of homes and businesses will be
required for this project
A map displaying the location and design of the project and a copy of the
environmental document - Categorical Exclusion (CE) - is available for public review at
the City of Wilmington Planning Department located at 305 Chestnut Street - 3rd Floor,
Tower, Wilmington and at the NCDOT Division Office located at 124 Division Drive,
Wilmington The map may also be viewed online at www wmpo org
