Subject: Emergency pipe replacement on Wildwood Road (SR 1682), Lincoln County
NCDOT has repaired a 36” pipe on the dead end road SR 1682 in Lincoln County as a
result of the pipe failure/partial wash out. The pipe and roadway fill was compromised
by the debris which was lodged object inside the pipe. A pipe liner was placed inside
the pipe while the stream flow was managed with a temporary bypass pumping
system. Five feet of riprap was placed at the inlet for structure stabilization. The
deteriorating condition of the pipe was discovered last week and NCDOT personnel felt
this was an emergency project and proceeded with the replacement due to the
predicted rain totals and the uncertain path of the hurricane.
The scope of the work permanently impacted an unnamed tributary to Killian Creek,
which is classified as Class C waters by the Division of Water Resources, with five feet of
Class II riprap.
There is a “no effect” on T&E species or historical structures. No wetlands or high
quality waters were impacted by this project.
NCDOT utilized a NW 3 (GC #4085) for the construction of the project. Please let me
know if you need any additional information regarding this project.
Thank you
