The amount of material to be removed from this area is approximately 3,051 cubic yards. Since the authorization from USACE for this project it has come to the Divisions attention that another area, within the same basin, is in need of dredging to allow for vessels to be able to move freely in and out of. Due to the change in the scope of the project, an amendment to the current project authorization is being requested. There will now be two dredge project areas inside the Hatteras basin at the Hatteras ferry terminal. The new area (or area #2) is further down the bulkhead and has approximately 2,107 cubic yards of material to be removed to reach the permitted 12’ depth. Current depths in this slip range from 3’ to 4.3’. A survey taken on August 1, 2017 depicts the new area and provides the cross section view. Described in the previous and now most current PCN, all dredge work will be contracted out and will not be done with the NCDOT pipeline dredge. Equipment that we expect to be used for this project is a long reach excavator from shore and/or a barge with a bucket type dredge to remove all material. Removed material will then be hauled off site and taken to an approved location. A pre-construction meeting will take place before this project contract is put out for bidding. The total amount of material being removed from the basin is approximately 5,158 cubic yards. Attached to this email are surveys for both project locations and an updated PCN.
