Comment The Division received the permit renewal application package on 5/19/2014
The facility has been shut down since March 2013 Duke Energy is progressing towards the
closure of the ash basins and demolishing the plant infrastructure within the next few years
Duke Energy has proposed a dewatering strategy for the ash basins to the Division via letter
dated 6/22/2015 The proposed pumping activity is currently under review
The last compliance evaluation inspection was performed at the facility on 9/6/2013

Comment Site Grounds appeared to be well maintained
The water level in Ash Basin #2 was significantly below the discharge outlet of the stop -log
tower The metal walkway allowing access to the stop -log tower has been removed The
concrete conveyance for Outfall 002 has been bermed to collect and return (via pumping
system) any accumulated water back into the ash basin Ash in the ash stack is currently
being removed and transported (by contracted companies) to permitted landfills in Homer,
Georgia (10 loads per day) and at the Marshall Steam Station Future disposal plans include
the utilization of the rail system to transport the ash to a permitted site in Moncure, North
Carolina
