Federal documents suggest that the Atlantic Coast Pipeline could further harm North Carolina’s water quality and quantity as contractors drill below or trench riverbeds, flush the pipeline segments with municipal water. This could also change the flow of groundwater to private drinking water wells, via blasting and digging. Water is essential for human and animal life and the success of communities and businesses in them. Any threat to water quality and quantity in exchange for natural gas, the need for which is not even proven, is irresponsible. The extraction of natural gas through fracking also involves a number of contaminants and threats to water, so allowing that to occur is also irresponsible. Spills, leaks, or damage from the pipeline could affect all of the rivers in eastern North Carolina. That is not worth any kind of project, especially the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. I request that you to deny these permits. Sincerely, Julie Thomson 910 N. Mangum St, Apt B Durham, NC 27701 1
