In fact, studies have shown that the pipeline is unnecessary, and will likely be obsolete in short order, as renewables become cheaper than the natural gas that Duke is addicted to. As the planet warms, we all need to break Duke's addiction to fossil fuels, and streamline conversion to a clean energy future. The ultimate environmental issue that should preclude building this pipeline is that of global warming. How long will NCDEQ stuck its head in the sand, and push the planet further toward the brink of climate disaster? I thought hope that NCDEQ will reject the Atlantic Coast Pipeline LLC's 401 Water Quality Certification application. I'm worried about the damage it could cause to our environment and our waterways. The construction of the pipeline could harm aquatic life and habitats, smothering spawning beds and fish eggs. These spawning and nursery areas are essential to endangered species such as the Atlantic sturgeon and the Shortnose sturgeon, and home to the Neuse River Waterdog, Carolina Madtom, and several other species of concern in North Carolina. For these reasons, I urge you to reject the 401 Water Quality Certification application from Atlantic Coast Pipeline LLC. Thank you. Sincerely, Keith Allen PO Box 11 Cedar Grove, NC 27231 1
