It touts economic benefits for eastern NC that are not sustainable. Construction brings temporary jobs but these jobs evaporate when construction is done. We should be encouraging clean, sustainable forms of energy for eastern NC where real job growth occurs. Methane from fracked gas is 100 times more polluting than CO2. Instead of building pipelines, we should be encouraging the growth of wind and solar farms. Pipelines leak. Period. There is risk to people, ground water and wetlands. The Marcellus Shale’s gas may also be running out. So we do not need to build an expensive, dangerous pipeline to burn fuel that hurts our chances of surviving on the planet. Duke Energy supports the ACP because of its rate model based on construction of gas-fired plants. The plants benefit shareholders and not the consumers. The ACP is not what we should be doing to preserve our children and grandchildren’s chances for a livable planet. Thank you for the opportunity to comment.
