It would require clearing hundreds of acres of forested wetlands and cross hundreds of streams and rivers putting their waters at risk of pollution. In some cases the waters which would have to be crossed are high quality waters that provide drinking water to North Carolina towns. Many of these same waters and others to be crossed serve as primary nursery areas for fish critical to our coastal fisheries. It seems from a brief look at the map that this could largely be avoided if the pipeline were routed significantly further inland such as in the vicinity of state Route 258. We hope you will consider this alternative or perhaps other alternatives which would move the pipeline to a less environmentally harmful location. James C.and Kathleen J. Smith 110 S.
