SUBJECT: NC 55 Corridor Study, from South of Angier to NC 42, Harnett and Wake
Counties, WBS No. 46377.1.1, TIP Project R-5705
The Project Development and Environmental Analysis Unit has begun studying the
proposed improvements to the NC 55 corridor in Harnett and Wake Counries. The project is
included in the 2016-2025 North Carolina State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP),
and is scheduled for right of way acquisition and construction in Fiscal Years 2020 and 2022,
respectively.
The proposed project is approximately 10.4 miles long and will involve upgrading
existing NC 55 to a multilane roadway with a possible bypass of Angier on new location. The
attached figure shows the project location and study area.
We would appreciate any information you might have that would be helpful in evaluating
potential environmental impacts of the project. If applicable, please identify any permits or
approvals which may be required by your agency. Your comments will be used in the
preparation of a state-funded environmental assessment. This document will be prepared in
accordance with the North Carolina Enviromnental Policy Act. It is desirable for your agency to
respond by September 20, 2016 for your comments to be used in the preparation of this
document.
