Subject: City of Greensboro Lake Townsend Dam Spillway Replacement
Individual 404 Permit (SAW# 2007-00895-241)
Dear Mr. Williams:
This letter is in reference to discussions you have held with Ms. Shearin Dramby
regarding the placement of demolition materials within the impacted area of the
Townsend Dam Spillway Replacement Project. Upon completion of the new dam
and spillway, portions of the existing spillway, intake and pump house will require
demolition. Demolition material will include mass and reinforced concrete from
spillway buttresses, retaining walls, and the intake pump station. Much of the
demolition will need to be performed underwater and we propose to dispose of this
demolition material underwater between the existing and new spillways. This
location is within the existing impact boundaries defined in the approved Section
404 Permit (SAW# 2007-00895-241) and 401 Water Quality Certification (DWQ-
2007-0410).
On behalf of the applicant, Brown and Caldwell is requesting a letter of verification
that the above referenced activity is allowable under the previously issued Section
404 Permit and 401 Water Quality Certification. Feel free to contact me should you
have any questions or require additional information.
Very truly yours,
BROWN AND CALDWELL
