Thank you for the recent letter releasing the Tyner-East and Rankin Lake fans from further
annual monitoring. The following information addresses the concerns noted in your letter regarding
the Mushroom Fan. The representation of tree species in the monitoring plot is simply a product of the
plot placement. As shown on the attached Mushroom Fan mitigation plot map, only swamp blackgum
(Nyssa biflora) (NYBI) and bald cypress (Taxodium distichum) (TADI) were located in the plot when
it was established at the beginning of monitoring in 2006. In 2007, all of the trees that were initially
mapped had survived and I new Atlantic white cedar (Chamaecyparis thyoides) (CHTH) was located
in the plot. We will continue to monitor tree survival on the Mushroom Fan throughout the minimum
5-year monitoring period to ensure proportionate representation of all planted species and mitigation
success.
Regarding soil testing, I found no record of physical-chemical analysis for the Mushroom Fan
during 2006 (monitoring year 1). We will conduct an analysis of the physical-chemical parameters
outlined in the mitigation plan during monitoring in 2008 (monitoring year 3).
Please contact me if you have any other questions regarding mitigation monitoring of the
Mushroom Fan. I look forward to a site visit with you later this year.
Sincerely,
"- Jwa,
