The original proposal was to leave the old vertical end bent in place and cut it off at the proposed excavation elevation. It appears that this end bent was damage during Hurricane Matthew and Bridge Maintenance excavated behind the end bent placed fiberglass sheeting against the timber end bent and back filled it with 57 stone. Because the vertical end bent is damage and 57 stone is behind it, the Division would like to excavate the material behind (landward) of the end bent at a 1.5:1 slope and rip rap the slope with Class II rip rap. I've spoken with Kevin Bowen and he agrees with this proposal. Based on our conversation this is work in high ground and will not require a permit modification so we are going to proceed as proposed. Attached are pictures of the old end bent for your records. If you have any questions or need any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thanks!
