NCDOT Bridge Inspectors have found critical issues with the dolphins on the Holden
Beach Bridge fender system that need immediate attention. Per their findings the SE
Dolphin has 5 broken piles, the NW Dolphin has 1 broken pile and 1 pile that is hollow
with just a ¾” shell and the SW Dolphin has 1 broken pile. The NCDOT Ferry
Maintenance Crew is currently working at Fort Fisher and when they finish, we are
proposing to have them mobilize to this site and replace the 8 dolphin piles listed
above. We are anticipating that this will occur in a couple of weeks.
Attached is a copy of the report which includes a location map and sketch of the
bridge. Please let me know if we need anything from your respective agencies to
proceed.
Thanks!
