Dear Mr. Weaver:
On behalf of ABB, Inc. (formerly Flakt Products, Inc.), Amec Foster Wheeler Environment &
Infrastructure, Inc. (Amec Foster Wheeler) is submitting this request to cease monitoring
associated with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permit No. NCO085871 This
letter is being sent following a discussion with Mr Ron Berry with the North Carolina Division of
Water Resources (DWR)/Complex Permitting in a July 25, 2017 email to Mr. Joe Deatherage
with Amec Foster Wheeler
The referenced NPDES permit is for a groundwater extraction and treatment system. Amec
Foster Wheeler turned the system off on July 27, 2017, to create static groundwater conditions
as part of activities being performed under the North Carolina Department of Environmental
Quality (NCDEQ) Inactive Hazardous Sites Branch (IHSB)-REC Program (NCDEQ Site ID
Number NONCD 000 0017). The system shut down will be for an extended, potentially
permanent period, and will be addressed through IHSB-REC Program.
Mr. Berry indicated in his email that once the DWR approves this request, additional monitoring,
submittal of Discharge Monitoring Reports, and Operator in Responsible Charge site visits will
not be required unless discharging resumes.
