On July 14, 2017, at 11 17 a.m this Office received a phone call from Ms Kim Holt (ORC) to report
plant upset of biological treatment at Muddy Creek Wastewater Treatment facility. The plant upset was
investigated by Roberto Scheller of this Office on July 17, 2017 During the on-site visit a 30 -minute
settability test and microscopic examination of Mix Liquors Suspended Solids (MLSS) was conducted
Test indicated that the biological process appeared to be recovering from upset
It was noted that Ms. Holt is very knowledgeable of treatment plant operations and biological treatment
processes Due to Ms Holt's quick response to plant upset the treatment process appeared to be
recovering quickly
This Office recommends that commercial and industrial users of the collection system be visited to
determine source of plant upset Collection system users should be reminded that unused and/or outdated
chemicals and cleaning products should be disposed of properly
The enclosed report should be self-explanatory; however, should you have any questions, please do not
hesitate to contact myself or Roberto Scheller at (704) 235-2204 or roberto.scheller@ncdenr gov
