Iredell county: went to the site on 9/23. The main stem of the stream is well
incised (about 5 ft) and only about 18 inches wide at the stream bed. Given the
stream size, it is pretty incised. The area is well forested.... but not a natural
area. Previously, cattle had access. The site is about 700 acres. The proposed
pond is 23 acres. A lot of water sports ...the traditional canoing (sp), swimming,
and sail boating, but also wind surfing? and newer water sports
Two other camps are to be closed. One on Lake Norman and another at Lake Lure, due
to developmental pressures. There are other water features on site that are to be
preserved. the camp is bounded also by the Yadkin River. The camp overall will be
a "preserved" forested area within a county that will probably experience
developmental pressure in the future.
Though not keen on on line ponds ...the general nature of the project is preferred
compare to the basic amenity pond for a residential development.
