JAY ZIMMERMAN Director As we have previously communicated to Duke Energy, the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is conducting a review of available technology for drinking water filtration systems for removal of hexavalent chromium and vanadium. As part of this review, we intend to evaluate the filtration systems that Duke Energy has proposed to provide to eligible households under the replacement water supply provisions of House Bill 630 (the Coal Ash Management Act or LAMA). Therefore, within seven (7) days, please provide the following information to DEQ for Duke Energy's proposed filtration systems: All design documents, specifications, engineering reports, and vendor product information to demonstrate removal of hexavalent Chromium and vanadium, including the following: • Targeted performance goals for hexavalent chromium and vanadium, whether expressed as the concentration in produced water or as a removal efficiency. • Any testing results (including bench scale or pilot testing) or full-scale implementation data indicating the inlet/outlet concentrations and removal efficiencies for hexavalent chromium and vanadium. • Any industry standards for removal of hexavalent chromium or vanadium, and information indicating whether the proposed systems have been or could be certified under such standards. • Any other available documentation related to the performance of such systems regarding removal of hexavalent chromium or vanadium.
