BEGINNING at an iron pin set at the intersection of ilia right of way of Interstate Highway 40 and lite
cantor line of State Road 2176, running thence along and with the northern right of way of Interstate
Highway 40 South 72.38' West through a concrete monument located at 39.44 foot from the point
of the beginning 701.72 feet to a concrete monument; thence continuing along the northern right of
way of Interstate Highway 40 South 74.12' West 374.92 feet to a concrete monument, a common
turner of Sarah J. Bost Living Trust; thence along and with the line of Bost North 05'18'30" East

Per your request, Catawba Valley Engineering and Testing (CVET) is providing this letter
summarizing our evaluation performed to detennine the permeability of subsurface soils below
the proposed underground detention system at SMG Leasing, LLC in Statesville, North Carolina.
The purpose of our exploration was to obtain representative samples of the subsurface soils
within the proposed detention system envelope, perform laboratory testing, and determine the
infiltration rate to aid in design of the minimum surface area for an infiltration system.
CVET personnel visited the subject site on June 26, 2017 to perform a total of three hand auger
borings (A, B, C) within the proposed underground detention system at the locations displayed
on Figure 1 — Infiltration Test Location Plan. Bag samples were obtained at 1 foot intervals to
depths ranging from approximately 2 to 10 feet below bottom of system elevation (869.74 ft.).
No evidence of the seasonal high water table (SHWT) was observed at the depths explored
during this evaluation.
The bulk soil samples were returned to CVET laboratory in Hickory, North Carolina where the
samples were subjected to Grain Size Analysis (ASTM D422). Laboratory results of the soil
samples reveal that the in-situ soils have USCS Classification of ML and SM. Based upon our
interpretation of Table B-2 of NAVFAC MO 330, we conclude that a permeability (infiltration)
rate of k = 104 cm/sec is an acceptable value for use in design of the minimum surface area for
an infiltration system. Conversion of this reveals an infiltration rate of approximately 0.1417
inchesihour. Please see the attached Laboratory Test Results.
This report has been prepared for the exclusive use of G.L. Wilson Building Company and their
agents for specific application to the referenced property, in accordance with generally accepted
concrete and foundation engineering practices. No warranties, expressed or implied, are
intended or made. The conclusions and recommendations presented in this report are based on
the specific laboratory testing, visual observations, and field testing performed as part of our

conclusions and recommendations contained in this report in writing.
