SUBJECT: Nationwide Permit 18 Application and Water Quality Certification
Request for Flood Counter Measures in Princeville, NC Edgecombe
County. WBS #4.103311
Dear Sirs:
NCDOT is proposing the use of one duckbill check valve (DCV) on the 36 inch diameter
RCP cross pipe under US 64 just east of the NC 33 and US 64 interchange. Installing a
DCV on the 36 inch diameter pipe will potentially reduce the amount of flooding for
more frequent events and provide more storage for flow coming from the RCBC during
less frequent events. The purpose of this project is to provide a feasible flood
countermeasure to reduce the amount of flooding in Princeville during heavy rain events.
This project involves removing one section of 36" RCP and adding a standard junction
box and an 18' steel pipe and installing the DCV on the end of this pipe. This 18' pipe
will be placed on a bed of class 1 riprap to provide a stable and non-erosive foundation.
The expected impacts are 0.01 acres of wetland fill and OA1 acres of wetland mechanized
clearing.
If you have any questions or need any additional information, please contact Chad
Coggins, Division Environmental Officer at (252) 640-6427. Your time and effort are
appreciated.
Respectfully submitted,
