TROGDON, III SECRE"IARY The NC Department of Transpvrtation is experiencing a shoulder failure adjacent to the sub1ect route. Very little shoulder remains at this location and the situation neds to be corrected soan. We are 1T41OS1)lg O construct a 130 foot long PezmaShzeld Wail adjacent to T1C 18 to reestablish the shoulder of this heavily traveled NC route. The stream in question zs a UT ta Laurel Fork {Class: B; Trout +} in the New River Basin. Tle proposed wall construction will require temporary dewatering. An impervious sandbag dik will be installed upstrearn af the construction area. Clean water will be pumped around the operation while any dirty water locaied inside of the conshuction area will be pumped into a silt bag if necessary. Preconsiructin streambed elevations will be restored once tha work is camplete. Dewatering impacts will tatal 40 linear feet. Tl'rs project was reviewed for the presence of tlareatened and endangered species in the field .nd in GIS resaurces (see attached report from NHP}. This project is very limited in scope and will have no effct on any federally iisted endangered plant or animal species. This project is exempt from Historic Architecture and Archaeology review. The project impacts are not significant in nature and should improve water quality by elirninating the ongoing erosion issue. ownstream water quality staidards will be protected by utilizing appropriate BMPs during construction. Attached is a Precon.struction Notification Form, a marked topography rnap and phctographs.
