The project is needed to provide drinking water to residents along Gilbert Road. Temporary impacts to 0.017 acre of forested wetlands and 0.005 acre of RPWs are needed to install the line. The impact areas will be returned to preconstruction grade and seeded once the installation is complete. Describe the existing conditions on the site and the general land use in the vicinity of the project at the time of this application: Project area consists of a DOT right-of-way along the north side of Gilbert Road. Adjacent land use is mostly undeveloped and forested, with some residential and agricultural use. Wetland areas are vegetated with shrubby species. 3b. Explain the purpose of the proposed project: The purpose of this project is to provide drinking water to residents along Gilbert Road. Impacts are needed to install the water line within the NC DOT right-of-way. 3e. Describe the overall project in detail, including the type of equipment to be used: The project involves the construction of 13,000 linear feet of 16" water main to be installed along the northern right of way of Gilbert Road (NCDOT SR 1501). The applicant will dig a trench along the road and install the waterline. A 20' wide construction corridor will be used. The project will connect to an existing water main in the right of way of Midway Road (NCDOT SR 1500) and run west along Gilbert Road where it will terminate with a connection to an existing water main on Gilbert Road just west of Goose Marsh Court. Material removed from the trench will be stockpiled in adjacent upland areas within the ROW. Once the pipe is installed, the trench will then be returned to pre-construction grades. In wetland areas, organic material removed from the trench will be returned to the top 12" and the area will be seeded. Standard construction equipment will be used. 4.
