Subject: Proposed Groundwater Assessment Plan Revision 1 Response
James E. Rogers Energy Complex
Additional Assessment of Coal Ash Disposal Area Across the Broad River
Cleveland and Rutherford Counties
Dear Mr. Sullivan:
On May 15, 2017, the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Division of Water
Resources (DWR) received the Proposed Groundwater Assessment Plan Revision 1 (Plan). DWR
granted conditional approval to the Plan in an e-mail dated May 24, 2017 from Ted Campbell to Ryan
Czop with the following comments:
In the groundwater assessment report that will be provided following this investigation, please
identify on a map all private supply wells within a V2 mile radius of the study area, along with
the seven monitor well locations, any areas of wetness and (or) tributaries to the Broad River,
and the Broad River itself. Provide tabular results for any of the supply wells have been
sampled to date.
Ensure that detection limits for constituents in soils are lower than the "Protection of
Groundwater" threshold.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact Ted Campbell (Asheville Regional Office) at
(828) 296-4500 or Steve Lanter (Central Office) at (919) 807-6444.
Sincerely, e_
