RE: Smithfield Facility Expansion
John,
The proposed expansion does not include any additional processing but rather refrigeration storage/distribution. No new
wells are proposed as a result of this expansion and water withdrawal will be minimal. It is my understanding that
the storage/distribution center will utilize —90% recycled water with the only anticipated additional new water usage
associated with employee restrooms. At this time there are 11 restrooms proposed. We can discuss this further at the
scoping meeting on April 11th
Thanks,
Beth

Do you know if there will be an increased withdrawal of water associated with this expansion?

We have reserved a conference room in the Wilmington Regional Office for a scoping meeting to discuss the
proposed expansion of the Smithfield Facility in Tar Heel, Bladen County. The project is anticipated to impact
approximately 4 acres of jurisdictional wetland and would require an individual permit/certification. A copy of
the preliminary jurisdictional determination is attached for reference.
We will also set up a call in number if anyone would like to participate, but cannot travel to
Wilmington. Please feel free to forward to anyone that I may have missed.
Chad — I understand that you are not available that week, but wanted to keep you in the loop.
