3. Project Description
3a. Describe the existing conditions on the site and the general land use In the vicinity of the project at the time of this
application: This site is dense residential, sloping toward the unnamed tributary of Hominy Creek, and then generally Southwest,
following the flow lines of the creek. The unnamed tributary runs along the rear of all properties along the project between Sand Hill Rd
and Vermont Ave. The area along the creek Is a mix of newly developed residential properties with manicured lawns going to the top of
bank and areas of moderate undergrowth and trees.

3d. Explain the purpose of the proposed project: This project is to replace existing sanitary sewer lines, which are In poor condition. The
existing lines will be replaced with new ductile iron pipe with gasketed joints, which will reduce the potential of exfiltratlon of sewer flow, as well as
Inflitration of groundwater.
3e. Describe the overall project in detail, including the type of equipment to be used: The overall project consists of 2.341 LFofsanitary seworline
running along an unnamed tributary of Hominy Creek, and making seven (three mainline, four side line) crossing. All crossings are sub-aquoous, encased in concrete. MSD will acquire a 20 ft wide
pennenont easemont along tho now lino. All stream Impacts for this project will be temporary.
This project will Involve digging a 5.15 it deep trench, approximately 4 fast wide using a trench excavator. Upon completion of the sewer installation, the excavator and other small equipment will be
used to grade the disturbed area back to Its original contours. Creek crossings will be bypass pumped during construction, to Install the sawar line In drier conditions and Minimize creek Im acts.

designed to utilize existing easements and creek crossing where possible, eliminate aerial crossings, and reduce exfiitration and infiltration between the
sewer line and the creek, To minimize erosion during construction, slit fence is used during construction, and the disturbed area is re -seeded and
covered with straw after backfilling and grading. Stream bank stabilization is installed at all creek crossings, once the sewer line Installation Is
complete.

construction limits have been defined to utilize existing disturbed areas, where possible. Project specifications require the contractor to clear the
permanent easement area and only those areas of the temporary construction easement as necessary to install the new sewer line and complete any

This project is for the installation of a new sewer main which will provide better flows, reduce infiltrationlexfiltration
between the natural stream flows and the sewer flows, and will reduce sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs). It is anticipated
that replacing the existing line with a new ductile iron line will reduce sewer flows from this area, and overall flow into
MSD's treatment plant.
