While the total domestic discharge to the lake is low, .154 MGD, the lake receives no summer 7Q10 inflow. The retention time of the lake is estimated to be 1412 days. Other sources of nutrients are zinc phosphate in the boiler blowdown and nonpoint sources. There are currently no nutrient limitations on the above discharges. The 1989 Environmental Monitoring Report prepared by Shearon Harris indicates that 1989 was a peak year (data since 1985) for chlorophyll -a and nutrient levels. Chlorophyll a levels exceeded the state standard of 40 ug/l at all sampling sites in May 1989. TN and TP levels were also at their highest. TN and TP levels exceeded the 0.1 and 0.01 mg/l levels recommended to avoid eutrophication. The 1990 report is not yet available. It is recommended that AGPT and nutrient data be collected at the four stations sampled by CP&L (E2, H2, P2, S2). An additional sammple should be taken below the Environmental Center on Little White Oak Creek; perhaps at SR 1128. These sites are marked on the attached topo map. At these stations, field parameters, nutrient concentrations (i.e., TP, Ortho -P, TN, TKN, NH3-N, and NO2+NO3), and chlorophyll a should be collected. Samplincr Sites 1.
