This is for a bridge to culvert replacement on the mentioned road. The recent rain has swollen Hickory Creek to the point that it has not only overtopped the impervious dikes in place for the project, it has subsequently moved a concrete barrier. The pictures detail the site as it was this morning. The contractor has a priority punch list which includes placing larger sized sand bags (the big round ones) in the "hole" that is noted on the first picture to try and force the water into the diversion pipe. We are also hoping to keep that bank where it is. On the slope face that is currently exposed, plastic will be laid to prevent any additional erosion from the expected future rain events in the next day or so. Also note, there is a diversion berm up above that area which captures any stormflow running down the road; so, the only stormwater hitting that bank is what falls from the sky. Several things have gone wrong on this site, not the least of which was a collapse of the near bank at the abutments (which has now created a safety hazard that needs to be addressed so no one gets hurt or un-alived). The erosion control measures were installed per plan and were functioning. Everything just was overwhelmed. In the work area, the forms were laid for the wing walls and the bottom of the culvert so it is our hope that any 57 stone or sediment that washed is trapped in those forms. We won't have a better idea how bad this is until the rain stops and the water level drops. I am not sure how much rain this area received; I'll defer to Chris or Kim to weigh in on the actual number. In short, the entire work area is flooded and the contractor is working to stabilize/reduce exposure in the work area that would otherwise be dry. I'll keep you all posted as the week progresses. Feel free to give me a call with any questions or concerns. Nikki Nicole J.
