Dear Mr. Oliver:
Reference is made to your letter of June 7, 1991 requesting reduced monitoring for the sanitary
wastewater treatment plant (outfall 002). The Division of Environmental Management (DEM) has
reviewed your letter and is responding to your comments in this letter.
The DEM has recently re -rated your facility and has determined that the facility is a Class III
treatment works. As a result of the Class III status, the Permits and Engineering Unit has assigned
the appropriate monitoring to your facility as mandated by the DEM Regulations (15A NCAC 2B
.0500). The regulations are written to insure that adequate monitoring is being implemented in the
permits issued by the DEM. There are many other facilities that are facing the same dilemma as you,
but this agency must require monitoring that will insure that the water quality standards of this state
are being protected.
